Lunar Eclipse

Totality

Another photo from the Maldives, this time showing the totally eclipsed moon. The slide shows more details, from the brightest to the darkest part of the entire moon. Most interesting about this photo, however, is the fact that the moon is completely sharp, but the bright star in the top right corner is trailed quite a bit. It seems that my cheap New Polaris mount, which never tracked anything correctly, suddenly had exactly the right speed to track the moon's motion during this long exposure. Note that the mount does not have any speed setting other than sidereal, so this was an absolute miracle!
