As seen from 50 degrees north latitude, the sun barely rises above the horizon in the winter. The sky never really gets bright, not even in the middle of the day, and especially when it's cloudy for weeks, this can get quite depressing. When the sky is clear, however, the long, dark nights are almost perfect for astronomy, if they just weren't that cold! But we have warm clothes for that....
The correct exposure for a single photo was determined, then divided by 8 to get the exposure time for each one of eight exposures. I exposed once each hour from 9:00 to 16:00.
